Within a 10-mile drive of Bird's Farm is the Dedham Vale, an area of outstanding natural beauty and the setting for many of the paintings of John Constable. Hire a boat for a leisurely row down to Flatford Mill, virtually unchanged since the days of 'The Haywain'.

Explore the Essex coastline and sandy beaches of Frinton, Walton and Clacton-on-Sea or if sailing is your interest nearby Brightlingsea is a must. Beth Chatto, the award winning horticulturist has her famous gardens at Elmstead Market some 5 minutes from Bird's Farm.

The area also caters for golf and fishing enthusiast plus there is a nature reserve at nearby Fingringhoe.

A fast train service (under one hour) from Colchester to London Liverpool Street makes for a good day out in the capital city with Cheap Day Return tickets available.
